Guest Post - How To Wear Inhibition (and darker lipstick) - The Bode Boutique

Hello lovelies,

My name is Jessie and I run The Bode Boutique and today I am here to be a guest on Amy's blog and write about a lipstick that both Amy and I are very fond of! Before I start, I would just like to thank Amy for this opportunity and I hope you enjoy reading this post!

For this post, I have decided to share with you my three favourite ways to wear the lipstick Inhibition by Topshop which is a gorgeous deep purple shade, that could be quite daunting if you've not worn a dark lipstick before. When I first decided to purchase this lipstick it did take me a while to wear it as I was a bit unsure of what eye make up would look best with this shade of  lipstick due to the fact that is a very strong a prominent shade. However, I have come up with my three favourite ways to wear Inhibition, so I hope this helps any of you who have this lipstick, or just darker shades of lipstick in general! I will be focusing on three eye make up looks in this post, although I did include two blushes and a highlighter in the above image, as I find this lipstick looks best with a neutral blush, such as Peach Melba by Natural Collection or English Rose by MUA. Also a fantastic highlight that gives a natural glow is Sunbeam by Topshop.

The first look is an incredibly neutral eye look which is great for an everyday more understated look. For this look, I used Naked Lunch by MAC all over the lid as a gorgeous nude base, then simply added Espresso by MAC lightly in the crease, just to create a bit of definition to the eye. This looks fantastic with Inhibition as these shadows create a gorgeous neutral look that adds a slight definition to the eye, while allowing the lips to be the main feature.

This next look is the classic winged liner look which I have created without using any eye shadow to make it as simple and classic as possible. I used the L’Oreal Superliner for this look as it is my favourite liquid eye liner and I find it creates the most precise line and flick. I made the line very thin in the inner corner of my eye and thickened it as I went across to the outer corner of my eye and created a fairly thick flick as this will create definition and allow for the eyes to stand out just the perfect amount without making you look too overpowering with strong eyes and strong lips- I am a firm believer in eyes or lips, not both! This is such a simple look and is great for day or night!

The final look I have created is again fairly understated due to the strong shade of Inhibition and this is a gold toned eye look- something to add a bit of shimmer if you were wanting to wear this look for an evening event. For this I used a Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in Eternal Gold all over the lid to create a gorgeous creamy, shimmery base. I then used Maui Wowie by Urban Decay in the crease and on the lower lash line, to add a smoky effect to this look, but still keeping it understated and simple so not to overpower the lipstick.

Those are my three favourite ways to wear Inhibition. I really hope you’ve enjoyed this and that this has helped you in some way! Thank you again to Amy for letting me take over her blog for this post- its been great!
I would also love for you to check out my blog and tell me what you think.

  1. I love that you've shown the whole look, sometimes I struggle to match up my blusher to a lipstick and what eyeshadow to wear!
