Having accumulated a whopping (not really) £6 of Boots points I found myself pining after the new Barry M Gelly polishes. I was originally after Watermelon, but there were none left in stock and I walked away with the shade Grapefruit instead.
Grapefruit is actually a neon pink, brighter than I had initially expected. I can imagine I'll get a lot of use out of it when the sun starts shining, as it's a fab Summer shade. The brush in the bottle is the same narrow brush that I've seen in other Barry M polishes, which I like for a more precise application. Formula wise, it has a very thick, almost gloopy consistency and I actually found it a little bit tricky to apply without it appearing lumpy. With this shade you need at least two coats, as with one it appears streaky, which is disappointing for such a bright, in-your-face colour.
What really got to me about this polish was the drying time. I waited and waited, and waited some more and it still wasn't completely dry at two coats. I ultimately ended up with smudges and lines on each nail, which really affected the high-shine appearance it's supposed to provide. There was a lot of chipping after 24 hours, but I wouldn't rule out using it again as it does give a lovely gel-like effect when applied properly.
Have you tried out the Barry M Gelly polishes? What are your thoughts?

I've read very mixed reviews on these, will have to try them out myself! xo

They're definitely worth a try as I do think they're lovely shades, but it's the drying time that puts me off!
DeleteSuch a gorgeous shade. I only have two so far.. I have to use my Sally Hansen Insta-Dri or I have to wait for an age :) xx

Oooh I'll have to check that out, thanks Gemma :)
DeleteI love the sound of this colour and think the range looks fab. I can't stand it when polishes don't dry though, ruins the effect. I tend to do nails at night and wake up with smudges :) oops!
ReplyDeleteLeighton Denny miracle drops are a godsend at drying super fast.

I'm the same, I always end up with imprints from my hair too if I haven't left them long enough!
DeleteOoo this is a lovely shade for summer. I don't think I'd have the patience though... my nail polishes have to be dry within a minute or I smudge and ruin them haha!
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't, I like mine to be dry almost instantly haha!
DeleteI love the Gelly Hi Shines! I want this colour now to add to my collection!! :-) XX

DeleteI have been lusting after these ever since they came out, but have read so many mixed reviews about the formula being a pain, so I haven't picked any up just yet. The shades are gorgeous though, love this pink! x

Wish I had grabbed Lychee, it looks gorgeous!
DeleteI find one coat is the way forward with these. it does dry quicker, also I use a fast drying top coat. x
ReplyDeleteI did plan on using one coat but this ended up a bit streaky. Whether that's down to my nail polish application though I'm not sure! x
DeleteI'm really keen to try these new polishes, but haven't heard many positive things about them :( x
