2014 Beauty Resolutions

I'll admit, I don't really make New Year's Resolutions. However I've been having a think about my beauty routine and some small changes I'd like to make to it. Nothing too drastic, but small changes that could really make a difference.

Drink Even More Water

Before September 2013, I didn't really drink a lot of water at all. In fact, I only ever used to have 2 or 3 drinks a day. But I decided to cut out pretty much everything except for water and it's been making such a difference. I always opt for tap water when I'm out for a meal too, which knocks about a fiver off the bill at the end of the day!

Clean Makeup Brushes More Often

Something most of us are probably guilty of doing less frequently. I don't clean my brushes nearly half as much as I should, but I'm going to start making time for the task at least once a week.

Buy Less

In 2013 I found myself buying loads of makeup (mainly high street) that I didn't need or even end up liking because of hype surrounding the products. Towards the end of the year I figured out that in most cases you get what you pay for, and I'd rather treat myself to the occasional high end product than waste my money.

Use Natural Skincare & Haircare

I've already started to incorporate more natural skincare into my morning and evening routines, but I struggle with haircare. I'm guilty of using hair products containing SLS but after reading through Lauren Conrad's "Beauty" book I've been learning about how harmful these can be. I really fancy trying The Body Shop's Rainforest Moisture Shampoo after reading this post.

A few non-beauty related resolutions include reading more (I'm on Goodreads here), taking more photos, incorporating more lifestyle posts into PaintPotted and genuinely having as great a time as I did last year.

What are your resolutions for 2014?

  2. I definitely need to drink more water this year. I always feel the benefits, skin and energy wise, but then let it slip again! Happy New Year, Amy!

  3. I agree with everything here!
When I'm on the go, I drink a lot of water but when I'm just sitting around the house, I drink only about three glasses a day. It's terrible!

  4. Agreed on the cleaning brushes more often. I told myself I'd definitely do it today and yet... I didn't. It feels so nice when they're clean too, I just find it such a chore!

  7. I too purchased high street products that had hype surrounding them that at the time I didn't need. I will use them now etc but I plan on not doing that this year, I would like to reduce my make up collection down a bit.

  9. Great beauty resolutions Amy!! Cleaning my brushes more often is definitely something I feel all of us beauty enthusiasts need to commit to as well as not buying such an abundance of products that there's absolutely no way we can ever use up. Best of luck to you in your endeavors :)

  10. I am also trying to clean my brushes more. And buy less makeup items too. I too bought a lot of drugstore items to see what they're like and ended up giving away or throwing away most of them. Sigh. You can't return drugstore makeup where I live. And I've never wanted to be a snob but I simply prefer the textures and quality of high end makeup. Plus, you can always return it, even used. xx

  12. I've been pretty good with switching ice tea and juices for tap water last year, but I've noticed that as soon as the winter arrived, I just stopped drinking, so I really need to get more fluid inside me! :D

  22. I love this post! I also definitely need to spend less because I have to save up for car insurance and a holiday.. so no more treating myself to makeup on a weekly basis will be allowed, haha!
